The Union of Informed Citizens is a non-governmental organization, which aims at raising public awareness regarding important issues. We intend to minimize misinformation and its impact on shaping public opinion and decision-making.
Our organization intends to become one of the best centers that will educate promoting shaping of public opinion and decision-making based on objective information.
Our mission is to raise public awareness in spheres of state and public significance. We consider this an essential and integral component of any democratic society.
We are taking measures to increase the capacity of the media field in Armenia. Moreover, we ourselves are implementing media activities through the ArmRusInfo Russian-language news site and Sut.am fact-checking website, which combats misinformation.
The UIC publications primarily relate to foreign policy and concerning issues, democratic values and institutions, economy, elections, as well as citizen rights in certain areas. Our publications are frequently republished by other media. Throughout 2016, there has been more than 2000 references about us in media. Furthermore, our animated videos on Youtube, Facebook and other social media surpass several million views.
UIC, together with its partners, fights to increase the quality of the elections in Armenia, both by participating in observation missions on election day and through impacting the preceding processes.
In the course of preparing all kinds of materials, we are led by the promotion of democratic values. We will not under any circumstances justify aggressive wars, human rights abuses, as well as crimes against humanity or nature.
We do not represent interests of any political party or other groups.
Daniel Ioannisyan has been working in the opposition political field since 2007. He worked at the RA National Assembly as a Deputy Assistant from 2010 to 2011. During this period, he prepared different packages of legislative reforms for the law enforcement sector. Since 2011 Mr. Ioannisyan has worked as a law enforcement sector analyst for various local media resources.
In 2013, Mr. Ioannisyan left politics and later founded the “Union of Informed Citizens” NGO.
Tatevik Kerobyan has been working in the private sector since 2008. She is the co-founder and former director of “JR’s House” LLC.
Since 2014, Ms. Kerobyan has been Chairperson at “Union of Informed Citizens” NGO. She is mainly responsible for dealing with administrative issues of the organization. She also actively participates in the organization of different programs implemented by Union of Informed Citizens NGO.
Vahe Ghukasyan holds a Master’s Degree in Oriental Studies from Yerevan State University. He has been working in the field of media since 2013. Mr. Ghukasyan has been writing analytical articles for Union of Informed Citizens NGO since 2015. His articles are mainly focused on foreign policy developments.
He is also editor-in-chief of ArmRus.Info Russian-language news website and Sut.am watchdog journalism website.
Social media marketing assistant
Gevorg Ghahramanyan has been cooperating with the Heritage Party of Armenia since 2011. He has participated in numerous political programs organized by NDI, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, RSI, and etc. Mr. Ghahramanyan has extensive experience in working in precinct electoral commissions during national elections.
He has been working at Union of Informed Citizens NGO as social media marketing assistant since 2015.
Since 2016, Mr. Afrikyan has been working as a journalist at ArmRus.Info electronic news website founded by Union of Informed Citizens NGO. Materials prepared by him mainly address foreign policy issues. Since 2017, Rafael Afrikyan has been working at Sut.am as a fact-checking journalist.
Kristine holds a Master’s Degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from the American University of Armenia. She has also completed the Graduate Certificate in Translation program in the same university.
Kristine has worked as a translator and interpreter in a number of international projects. She also does freelance translations/interpreting in a variety of fields, including but not limited to political science and international relations, law, economics, and etc.
Ms. Goroyan has also attended a number of young experts’ and young leaders’ schools and political programs funded by the EU and different European foundations.
Andranik Manukyan is a specialist of International Economic Eelations. Mr. Manukyan has been Grants Intern at the U.S. Embassy Yerevan since June 2016. During the past years, he has been involved in various research projects, and currently is an Expert at “Amberd” Research Center of the Armenian State University of Economics. Mr. Manukyan has been doing economic research for the “Union of Informed Citizens” NGO since October 2016.
Amalia Melkonyan is a member of Chamber of Advocates of the RA. She provides legal consultations mainly in the fields of public law, such as administrative, tax and electoral laws. She also drafts legal opinions on bills, requests for clarifications regarding legal acts, drafts claims and represents our interests in courts.
Ms. Melkonyan has a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and Master’s Degree in International Business Law from French University in Armenia.
Shushan Harutyunyan has graduated from Yerevan State University, Department of Russian Philology.
Starting from 2015, she worked as a translator for the news website analitik.am.
Since 2016, she has been working as a translator for the news website ArmRusInfo, which is an independent Russian-language information portal of the “Union of Informed Citizens” NGO. She also works as a proofreader for the cultural and educational magazine “Jam” (Moscow).
Zaruhi holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Linguistics, and Master’s Degree in International Relations / Communication from the YSLU.
Prior to joining UIC on part time basis, she worked at the Information Resource Center of the U.S. Embassy in Yerevan, the Golden Apricot International Film Festival, interned at the National Assembly of the RA, Eurasia Partnership Foundation etc. Zaruhi is also CivilNet Studio Communications Coordinator and Internship Program Coordinator at one of the leading online TVs in Armenia, CivilNet TV.
Piruza Petrosyan has graduated from the International Relations Department (Bachelor’s Degree) and Political Science Department (Master’s Degree) of the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University. Since November 2014, she has worked as a correspondent for “Asparez” daily. Since February 2017, she has been working as an office assistant at “Union of Informed Citizens” NGO.
Vahram Toqmajyan has been actively engaged in political and social activities since 2006. He has constantly assisted the opposition, but, nevertheless has no party affiliation. Since 2009, Mr. Toqmajyan has also been carrying out scientific and teaching activities. He is also involved in the “Union of Informed Citizens” NGO as an expert, writing research articles related to history, ethnography and other fields associated with social sciences.
